VIATRON-concrete protectiion system

NEW TECHNOLOGIES – flashing materials of penetrating action of VIATRON type

Support of constructions’ longevity is a capacious notion that involve both technological and constructional requirements. The solution of the problem of buildings’ and constructions’ longevity maintenance and corrosion protection of them is one of the main and biggest problems in modern construction.

Nowadays nearly 60-70% of buildings and constructions are in need of major repairs because of air-gas and liquid hostile environments of man-caused and natural character that effect on them during the period of exploitation which leads to active destructive processes. It is known, that the modification of material properties in time depends on speed of its interaction with environment and has an irreversible character. Destructive processes are observed in constructions that function in the areas of alternate effects of water, frost, power load and active chemical and physical wear: in structures of industrial water engineering, bridges, balconies, gravitation embankments and water engineering structures. Over the period of 6-8 years the depth of corrosion in these constructions can amount to 8-10 cm, and over the period of 25-30 years they can come into emergency condition. In addition, in many cases as the hostile environment penetrates in the body of the construction the protective properties of concrete come down as regards to the armature which starts to corrode strenuously and quickly lowers the bearing strength of reinforced concrete construction.

Under the effect of surface and ground waters the processes of constructions’ destruction of deepened buildings (tunnels, mines, pump stations, concrete supports of electricity transmission lines, transporting collectors of sewages and etc.) take place which can’t be exploited any more because of the real danger for the life of people. It is necessary to mention here the examples of disintegration of vegetable store cellars; pools that filter water become infected with fungus, mould etc. It is possible to solve all these problems by using of the new effective protective-repair waterproofing material «Viatron». For all the variety of waterproofing materials they can be divided into two groups: traditional or attaching (ruberoid, isol, different skims, membrane etc.) and facing (bituminous and polymeric resins etc.), and also materials of penetrable action of the «Viatron» type and similar foreign analogues developed on the basis of cement astringent and mineral chemical additions. As the experience of traditional materials’ application shows, for all their positive qualities, they have a number of disadvantages.

Creating a dense and durable enough protective layer, traditional materials function almost separately from the material of protected construction because of incompatibility of their rheological and deformation-mechanical properties, that leads to their exfoliation from the protected surface with the subsequent loss of protective functions in the process of exploitation.

While working with such materials substantial technological problems arise – necessity of preparation and preliminary drying of surface, strict observance of process variables, complicated work with constructions, where open flows and water inflows on stitches and joints take place in the process of accomplishing the work.

Waterproofing materials of penetrable action, which application greatly increases the operating descriptions of the protected concrete are more perspective in this direction.

Waterproofing compositions of penetrating action “Viatron” that were developed by us posses positive properties of both traditional protective materials and compositions of penetrating action.

When tempering such dry mixtures as “Viatron” with water and applying them on the moistened surface, on the edge of old concrete layer and the applied composition a strata of regenerated hydroengineering concrete or mortar is formed, which possesses new high-tensile properties and high watertightness.

The presence of reverse capillary infiltration of water through the construction is not an obstacle for accomplishing maintenance work.

Principle of action of the «Viatron» composition lies in penetration of the «Viatron» chemically active substances into the capillary-porous structure of old concrete under the effect of osmose pressure where reacting with composing particles of destroyed layer of old concrete, they form low dissoluble hydrate complexes mudding in microcracks, pores and capillaries of concrete forming dense protective layer that overlap the inflow of water into the concrete.

Depending on the density of old concrete, the depth of penetration of solute salts that form a part of the «Viatron» composition can be unlimited as they penetrate in it by continuous front.
